Through cooperative efforts, staff, students, and families will promote life-long learning and provide for individual needs Emerson News view all news School Closure Update: April 17, 2020 This afternoon, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker issued a statement in which he suspended in-person learning for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. At the April 28th Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 Board of Education meeting, the administration will present the board of education with options to consider for how District 205 moves forward with upcoming events such as graduation and summer school. School Closure Update: March 31, 2020 D205 has been in regular communication with government and health officials. This afternoon, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced a decision to extend statewide school closures and the “Stay at Home” order until April 30, 2020. The extension follows updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and an announcement from the White House extending physical distancing guidelines until April 30, 2020. D205 Superintendent Dr. David Moyer is examining the decision and will share how this impacts district-wide plans beyond our current closure as soon as possible. D205 Foundation Launches Community Response Fund In response to the the COVID-19 outbreak, the D205 Foundation has launched a Community Impact Fund . With your philanthropic support, this fund will allow the Foundation to rapidly deploy flexible resources to Elmhurst schools and community based organizations who are at the front lines of the COVID-19 outbreak. D205 Food Services to Offer Grab-and-Go Meal Pickup To assist students and families while schools are closed, the D205 Food Services Department is offering meal pick-up services during the closure period. D205 Social Distancing Recommendations The COVID-19 health landscape continues to evolve rapidly as evidenced by Governor Pritzker’s mandate that all schools close across the state. The governor’s decision was in sync with my decision on Friday in advance of that announcement to close all Elmhurst Community School Unit District 205 schools and offices beginning Monday, March 16, 2020. I would like to begin by thanking all of our families and employees for their patience and cooperation as we launched E-Learning in District 205 yesterday. This afternoon, Illinois Governor J.B. This was not unexpected, and the District has been busy planning to transition from Act of God Days to extended Remote Learning Days. We will elicit feedback and learn from our first several days of implementation and will continue to work to improve our service to you. The Illinois State Board of Education is recommending that all assessment during Remote Learning Days should be for the purpose of feedback. You can expect a communication soon with additional information on assessment and grades, special education services, and other pertinent information, including resources from our Student Services staff that may be helpful to families during this challenging time. We will continue to make meals available to our families in need and work collaboratively with our local government agencies and health care providers to serve our community. As one example, I am proud of our schools’ recent efforts to provide supplies such as sanitary wipes, gloves and goggles to Edward-Elmhurst Hospital. People also are becoming increasingly concerned about the continuation of athletics and end-of-year activities, such as prom, graduation, and summer school. We will begin planning for a variety of possibilities immediately, but we do not have enough information to provide details or make final decisions at this point. The one thing I do know is: strict adherence to the social distancing measures and sanitation guidelines such as regular hand washing will help prevent illness and help all of us return to normal sooner rather than later. In closing, I just want to tell you all how much I miss our students, staff and families. Please continue to take care and stay well.
